Singing Eagle Lodge is located on the shores of Squam Lake. We use the land and facilities of Camp Deerwood, a boys' camp in Holderness, NH that has existed on this spot since 1945. The use of this land as a camp goes back even further, to 1887 when it was the site of Camp Asquam, the second oldest camp in the United States. Deerwood has nearly 100 acres of land, including 1700 feet of lakefront.
At the top of a hill is the main lodge which provides a spectacular view of Squam Lake, Mt Chocorua, and the Sandwich Range of mountains. The lodge is the center of our activities, where we meet for assemblies, various indoor activities, and council fires. A separate performance building provides a venue for music, dance, and drama performances.
Campers are housed by age group in airy screened cabins with indoor plumbing and electricity. A rustic dining hall, also with wonderful views of the lake and mountains, is the scene of good meals, lots of singing, announcements, much conversation and fun. The kitchen is well equipped and staffed; the chef serves balanced meals and can accommodate various dietary needs.
Other camp facilities include a woodworking shop, ceramics facility, forge, soccer field, clay tennis courts, and basketball, volley-ball, and badminton courts. There is an infirmary supervised by a registered nurse, and an excellent hospital 15 miles away in Laconia.
